Fear is a Choice

I have to be honest with you. Lately, I have been allowing fear to take over my life and paralyze me (figuratively speaking of course). I Imagehave found that fear for me presents itself as seemingly important things like: checking my email, updating social media websites, the ever ongoing ‘research’ into something without ever acting upon said research, texting, school work, working out, TV and the list just keeps going. I focus on these rudimentary steps thinking that I am making some form of progress forward. When in fact I am really that hamster running in place on a wheel. I feel like I am doing some serious work, since I am constantly tired, my schedule is always full, and I make excuses of why I am too busy to be hanging out with friends.

What it boils down to is that, I am fearful of truly making progress forward. Why? This could come with massive success that I am not prepared for, or it could just confirm my doubts by being an enormous failure. Regardless either option seems too ‘risky’ or so that evil voice in my mind tells me.

So why am I sharing this all with you?

We all feel fear in some form or fashion. Maybe it is in aspiring career decisions like mine, taking charge of your health, moving out on your own, or asking out the person that has caught your eye. However, today in class my teacher shared this quote with us,

“Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.” –Will Smith

I guess I had just never thought of it like that. Fear is a choice. Yes we may feel it from time to time, but that does not mean that we have to let it paralyze us. It is a fleeting feeling that we can choose to let stay or to tell it to keep moving. Today, I decided to act upon this quote. I was tired of thinking of all the things that I wanted

to do, but not acting on them due to the infamous ‘what if’ question. I cannot remember the last time I have been this productive and happy with myself for acting on what I want. When you decide to release fear you have the choice of freedom.

You’ll be amazed at the things you can achieve when you aren’t afraid to act. Ever heard the question,

Image

If you never have, or it has just been a while take a few minutes to think about it. My whole point behind this article is for you to recognize where fear presents itself in your life currently. Through doing this you will now have the choice to release it and choose freedom instead. Take a deep breath, release your fears, and now go out and conquer the world!

For it is with you that the world has a chance to be truly magnificent.

What’s causing the rise in ADHD?

What’s causing the rise in ADHD?

(click above for original article)

I love this article Dr. Mercola did on ADHD. He addresses many different factors that may play into this diagnosis that so many people are facing today. I thought this excerpt was really interesting, “According to some, the disorder may not even be a “real” disorder at all. Psychiatrist Leon Eisenberg, hailed as the “scientific father of ADHD,” actually went on record saying that ADHD is “a prime example of a fictitious disease.” He made this stunning confession in a 2012 interview with the German paper Der Spiegel, just seven months prior to his death6 at the age of 87.”

Mercola discusses some dietary factors to also address if you or someone you know is diagnosed with ADHD.

It is worth the read and let me know what you think!

Midterm Frenzy

While it seems like just yesterday that it was midterms (probably because it basically was) that time has come again. I only have 3 midterms this week, while this may be the most I have had in one week as an undergraduate student it will certainly be nothing compared to when I am in graduate school. I can look forward to having approximately 8 exams at any given time in the coming months.

Joy.

Well at least for now I can take advantage of this time to breath a little!

Little trick for anyone in need of some focus—>Image

Try it you will absolutely fall in love as I have!

However, due to a slight change in schedule for the week I have not been able to make my weekly grocery trip so I have been scavenging the cupboards.

Some of my favorites include chia pudding for breakfast and also protein pancakes.

ImageImage

For the chia pudding:

1 cup almond milk

3 Tbs. Chia seeds

2 dates (pitted)

Cinnamon to taste

**Blend til you reach a nice consistency and chill in refrigerator over night. Top with favorite fruit in my case I did black cherries and kiwi and it was heavenly!

Protein pancakes were inspired by toneitup.com

I used their recipe and tweaked it slightly.

3 egg whites

dash of cinnamon

scoop of favorite protein powder (I used doTERRA’s Vanilla Trim Shake)

1 Tbs. almond milk

1/4 cup of oats

1 banana mashed

Mash the banana and add the remaining ingredients. Spray a pan with nonstick spray and put on medium heat. Pour some of the batter on and wait for the bubbles to form before flipping.

Filling:

I made a filling to add between the layers

4-5 strawberries

2 dates (pitted)

1 Tbs. natural peanut butter

dash of almond milk to help blend

Add all ingredients to a jar and mash with fork or blend if you wish.

Spread between pancakes and enjoy!!

Hope you like these recipes!

ImageWinter quarter.

11 weeks. 22 credits. (1) 5 week accelerated class. A part time job. 4.0 GPA.

Like every quarter it starts off slow and easy. It begins to build speed around week 6 and before you know it there are too many things to count.

Oh I forgot to add moving in week 10 to the mix, while trying to prepare everything to leave for vacation.

At times it was overwhelming, but I wouldn’t trade it for a second. I was able to learn a lot about myself this quarter.

I learned:

*to let go of the things I can’t control

*I really like to be spontaneous as much as I like to plan things

*I love making vegan, paleo cookies

*Communication really is key

*Having a few good friends are essential

*Whatever you can dream you can make happen

**Oh and I am remarkably good at procrastinating on writing papers

Those are just a few of the things that this quarter taught me. It is weird to think that in a couple of years I will no longer be living my life 11 weeks at a time. However, for now I like it that way. It can be stressful at times, but it can be extremely exhilarating as well.

Now it is time for some run, yoga, sun.Image

There is always the light at the end of the tunnel when the quarter starts and that is break at the end! I decided it was time to get away and catch up with my sister for the week. Just because it is vacation doesn’t mean its time to give workouts a break too. I think it is actually the perfect time to get back into it. Towards the end of the quarter I can let workouts slip with the amount of stuff that needs to get done.

Thankfully I have a great friend that is willing to run with me late at night when I find time to finally fit it in for the day!

Today I found a great fresh produce place where I picked up some oranges, apples, grapes, cantaloupe, and some greens for good measure.

Image

To add to the deliciously sweet fruit, there is a yoga place right across the street that I will take advantage of this week along with some great running trails.

Break is a time for rest and rejuvenation so you can hit the ground running once week 1 rolls around once again.

I look forward to using this week to my advantage and really taking everything it has to offer.

Especially that sweet sweet sun!

It’s Bio Time!

First up… Samantha.

I am a very health conscious twenty year old that is interested in seeing how different things react with my body. The coolest, ever ongoing, experiment someone can do is the one with their own body. Everyday I take into account the amount of sleep I have had, water, what foods, positive or negative thoughts, exercise, etc, and see what happens when I change those variables. I have been to more doctors in my few short years here than I would like, but what I have found is that while they were all extremely intelligent beings there was no way they could know my body as well as I do. This ultimately has led me on my quest to see what works and doesn’t work.. for me. Hopefully some of the things I try sparks your curiosity, but more importantly can in some form or fashion benefit you too!
